The Six Pillars of Brain Health
Ever wonder what a day filled with brain-healthy behaviors would look like? A lifestyle that supports brain health can make a difference to your well-being throughout your life. AARP invites you to challenge yourself to “BE MORE” by taking one more step along the path by learning about lifestyle habits that support brain health.
Join us as we welcome Marcus Mitchell, Volunteer State President of AARP Rhode Island for a virtual session and learn about the “six pillars” of brain health, stress management, sleep, and the benefits of just moving around a bit more. Marcus Mitchell is the Volunteer State President of AARP Rhode Island. In his role, Marcus works with the AARP Rhode Island state office staff and its volunteer core to educate and deliver resources to older Rhode Islanders so they are empowered to choose how they live as they age. In addition to his role with AARP Rhode Island, Marcus serves on the Miriam Hospital Board of Trustees, and on the board of directors of The Village Common of Rhode Island, Grow Smart RI, and the RI Environmental Educators Association. He is a Commissioner on the RI Commission for Human Rights and a member of the RI Statewide Planning Council. Marcus is the founder of a strategic solutions company with focus areas in crisis management, small business start-ups, continuity of operations and community issues mediation. Additionally, Marcus was the founding president of the Providence Community Library, the founding president of the National Urban League Young Professionals, which has dozens of chapters and thousands of members across the country, and past-president of Fellowship Farm, an historic international human relations training facility. He is co-author of more than 15 scientific publications during a twenty-year career as a cardiovascular sciences researcher; an editor of the book, “Biotechnology: Business, Regulation & Law”; and a staunch community advocate locally and nationally.
